  • C'est une question d'économie...

The Civil War changed the future of America.  The war was between the North and the South to preserve the Union.  Slavery was not an issue.  However, many slaves escaped to the North, where there were slavery was illegal.  After the final war was won, the President Abraham Lincoln presented the "Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation".

This document says that, all slaves throughout all the states, would be free after a 100 day period.  In 1865, the United States adopted the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, which outlawed the practice of slavery.

In the Southern states, where agriculture was significant, they needed the slaves to work the land. Slaves in the south were treated differently from one plantation to another.  Some "employers" were kind and protective while others beat and were cruel to the slaves.  These large cotton and tabacco producing plantations needed these workers.

Un debut ou peut-être ca suffit?
